Farmboy's Big Win!!

Farmboy finally won his buckle!! I don't think I have ever seen him happier (wedding and kids definitely a close second). He had a great season of roping in 2009. He won a High Money Jacket the first night. Then he won his buckle the second night! It's a good thing to, because of the incident with his hand. I think the hand happened the fourth night!
Congrats to my favorite Farmboy!! I love you and am proud of you!

What a cute little cowgirl I have!! I walked outside to check on Cam and Chayse as they were loading hay and couldn't resist taking a picture of my cute little girl!
Her favorite place to be is right by her Dad outside. She was a little frustrated today though, because she didn't know where her gloves were!

Marlene Joy Packer Pett

The other keystone was my Aunt Joy. My Mother's Sister. I wrote some thoughts about her, for her birthday just before she died:

Joy To the World
Where do you start when writing about such a wonderful person! I have learned so many lessons from Aunt Joy. I have never met anyone that sincerely cares about people more than her. Most of the memories I have, are her doing things for me- at first I felt bad about that, but then I realized that everyone else probably had similar ones! I got to make some special memories though that I think were fairly unique to me. Which also bring me to the lessons. Growing up I had the special privilege of going on several trips with just Aunt Joy, my Mother, my Gramma, and my Grampa. These trips were primarily to see relatives and visit cemeteries. To most little girls this would probably not be the most exciting trip, but to me it was like a great adventure where I was taught about my ancestors. I learned stories about who they really were and the lives they lived. On these trips Aunt Joy helped me develop my life long obsession with family history. I have a quote on my desk that says "If we don't know our heritage, we don't know who we are. Who came before us formed who we are- what we do, why we do it. If you have no appreciation for you past, then you don't know who you are." Although this quote is not from Aunt Joy it truly explains the lesson, or gift that she has given me.
The other constant lesson I learn from her is her great understanding about life it self. I have spent many hours talking to her about things in my life. I have such comfort in knowing that she will always be there to give the perfect advice that I have come to count on.
Another lesson that I have learned from her is acceptance. It seems that no matter what choices someone has made in their lives you can always count on Aunt Joy to be there to give love and support to them.
She is truly a Mother to all who know her and like her name, is such a Joy and blessing to all who have her in their lives!

Here is a song that just came out by my favorite Toby Keith, I felt like he wrote it for me.

Got the news on Friday Morning,
But a tear I couldn't find.
You showed me how I was suppose to live,
now you showed me how to die.
I was lost till Sunday Morning,
I woke up to face my fears
while writing this song, I found a tear.

I got up and dialed your number,
And your voice came on the line.
That old familiar message I heard a thousand times.
It said, Sorry that I missed you leave a message and God bless.
I know you think I'm crazy,
but I had to hear your voice, I guess.

I'm going to miss that smile,
I'm going to miss you, my Friend.
Even though it hurts the way it ended up
I'd do it all again.
So play it sweet in heaven
because that's where you ought to be.
I'm not crying because I feel sorry for you,
I'm crying for me.

So play your upside down left handed backward bass guitar
I'll see you on the otherside superstar.

I'm still crying,
I'm crying for me.

Stanley M. Hill

We lost two keystones of our family this year. One is Cam's Grampa Stan. What an amazing man he was. Some of the greatest lessons of my life were learned in the small living room sitting in the second recliner under the giant head of an unfortunate elk, turned hatrack. There I learned how life was during World War II, while he served in the United States Army. About all they went through while they served in Italy. He was in a tank. Being a history fanatic, I was constantly amazed at the history-in-the-making events he was actually present for. Which was just another experiance and just another story for him.
We lived in Las Vegas for about 5 years when Cam got out of College, so another subject that we could never hear enough of was Stan's time in Las Vegas. It was just starting to be a city and he had a part in building the original Las Vegas Court House, along with other buildings in the new little town.
Another thing that he loved to tell stories about is his childhood. He had a very unique childhood. He spent many summers in camp watching over the families sheep herd. Riding horses and fishing with his siblings and uncles. What a different time it was.
It was experiances like these that made him the man he was, and the one we all looked up to.
I found a poem that reminded me alot of Grampa.

Ride With Him Again

He done checked his gear's condition,
His cowboy hat was on just right.
His mount was prancing nervously,
'Fore he cinched that saddle up tight.

Today's his longest journey,
And it's been coming for a while.
Though he knows it's hard departing,
He'll be starting with a smile.

He spoke his piece to children,
While he softly held his wife,
And he said to those who'd listen,
She was the best thing in his life.

A braver man there wasn't,
When life would challenge him with trouble.
He would charge into the fray,
And do the right thing on the double.

But the Trail Boss called his number,
And the White Steed couldn't wait.
It was time to ride those hooves of starfire,
'Til they reached the Pearly Gate.

So he left us at his bedside,
Watching over him with love.
And he spurred that Spirit Stallion,
Toward his new home up above.

Well, we'll miss that long tall cowboy,
Maybe tear up now and then.
But we know we'll see him someday,
And ride the range with him again.

Good ride Cowboy. We love you.

Date Night with Daddy

Our community had it's first annual Daddy Daughter Gala tonight! It was so much fun! Cam was lucky enough to have two dates. The girls looked so good in there fancy little dresses. The had lots of little activities and games.... and dancing! What an important event for my little girls. Is there a better way for my daughters to learn how important they are to there Daddy and what a great way for them to prepare for there own dating experiance. This is such a simple way to teach our girls what they should expect, and how they should be treated by there dates. It was such a precious thing to watch my big tough husband dance with his little girls. I can't wait for them to make it a tradition!

*By the way I helped with it so that is why I was able to sneak a few photos!

They learned what they do with the mail when it gets to Emmett, they even got to pretend they were letters on take a ride on the card and lifting platform. They also got to see different things the Mail Carriers wear and how they sort the mail to get it to the right house. Happy Birthday to Crea!!

My baby boy is 10 years old today. I can't believe it! As I was laying awake at 4:30 this morning (after Cam had gone to work) I couldn't help remember what I was feeling at this exact time ten years earlier. My appointment to be induced was a 5am, and Cam, being Cam, gave me time to reflect on what was happening while he got ready to take me to the hospital. I remember sitting in my rocking chair feeling Crea kick all over thinking in a few short hours this feeling will be gone. I talked to him. Prepared myself for what I wasn't sure was coming. Being barely 20, and a little afraid of the next phase that was quickly coming in my life.
What a special little spirit he was! We had such fun being buddies for those two and a half years before Chloe and Chayse came. There is not an experiance in the world than welcoming your first child into your life. Happy birthday to Crea and Happy "Birth" Day to me, because it was truly the start of what I was suppose to do in life. Thanks Buddy and I love you!

Miracle of being a Mom...

I read this and had to post it. This is exactly how I feel about being a mom. It is so amazing and such a precious thing to be a mom. With the marks on my stomach I can tell where each pregnancy started and ended. Now that it has been four and half years since my last "stretch," my marks are slowly fading, and I am sad. I wear my
stretch marks with pride at the miracle my body helped create!

The following is an amazing right up from my very talented friend Teressa Welborne:
Have you ever added up your birth weights before? Of all your children? I have. My four children weighed:

My oldest: 8 pounds 12 ounces
Twin #1: 9 pounds, 1 ounce
Twin #2: 7 pounds, 14 ounces
My youngest: 9 pounds, 9 ounces.

That's 35 pounds, 4 ounces of babies all together. Hot dang. How do you wrap your mind around that, much less your tummy?

The black typed numbers read like text book math to me. But my tummy and heart know the truth: it was much more than that.

Yep, my tummy has been there. It's been stretched to next week, to China, the moon, and the galaxies beyond. And lived to tell it's story.

There's a brown freckle on my right thigh, near my knee, that my stomach grew to and kissed for a season while sheltering my twins, before shrinking back, empty, void. For forty weeks I rocked my twins like Noah and his ark out to sea, only longer.

Heavy,
full,
waiting,
searching for a sign of land.

On my tummy hangs an invisible sign: “Was home to full term twins and two other singletons.” The sign took years to build. It was rough and splintery at first. And it took lots of nails and sanding and time. Now, when I tell my pregnancy, birth, and post-postpartum stories, others see the sign, too. It is beautiful. And some days, still, I marvel that I made it.

My tummy housed my children time and again. It was a good house, a strong house, a house of bricks. One that I worried at first might be a house of straw. But full term after full term, baby after baby, I discovered it's magic.

Nothing, no wind, no wolf, no one person could blow it down. And I'm thankful. Like I'm thankful for these size nine feet that carry me in circles, this racing heart that pumps my blood, and these blue eyes that take in the black and white picture of all my children gathered as if petals of a flower, and the white gold wedding ring on my left ring finger that matches Ben's perfectly.

All parts of a greater whole. A whole that I am part of.

My body wrote it's own poetry in stretch marks across my tummy and hips. A testament, a tattoo, engraving the words:

motherhood,
selflessness,
love
...on my psyche like initials carved into a tree.

Part of me wanted to resist these words {motherhood, selflessness, love}, and still does from time to time. Part of me wants to shrink away and forget, become a dandelion puff on the wind and float away, alone and free. But I'm anchored by these words, these children, these truths, that ring through me like a bell. They are as part of me as my breath, my gentle snore Ben says he sometimes hears late at night, and my mama roar, “Come here now, child.”

I carry these engravings with me across this broad and rocky road we call life, shaking it with my story again and again like a giant, surging and cracking the earth, meeting strength and possibility with each step.

I am a mama giant with a tired, stretched out tummy to prove it. And I am thankful.

Lazy, Hazy Summer Days

Is this not the cutest picture! This is how my kids have spent some of the summer. My Friend, Kirsten, opened a Nutrition Club that myself and Nan help run. The kids get to hang out alot there and are always such troopers (and good dishwashers!) Here is Chayse doing sidewalk chalk outside the front door. Chloe is in the background playing her DS. I love our small little Main Street.

Walkin' in the River... (Be advised..it's gross!!)

We went to a friends house to swim in the river. Things were going great when Crea and his cute little friend Maddie came floating up saying that Crea stepped on a rock and cut his foot. Not thinking it was anything big, we went to look at it, were we ever wrong!! It was about a five inch slice right on the ball of his foot. We decided that he would probably need stitches. I took him in while my awesome friend, Abby, kept the girls... the following is Crea's first experiance getting stitches! I have to say though he was a very strong boy and handled it like a champ!

Women's Retreat 2009

So Our stake, last year, had the inspired idea to hold a "women's retreat" every summer! I have to tell you, we look forward to it every year! It is such a great way to fill our buckets. We have great physical food and spiritual food. I have such a great group of friends too! Our campsite is literally the furthest out of camp because we are to loud for some of the ladies up there! I love every minute of it though. This year we went to bed a little early, just after 4 am, but it is really such a great filler for the year!
Anyway hears to good friends, good learning, and good fun! Also the best scenery ever!!
Can't wait till next year :o)

Decade One Down

Well we did it! June 11th was our big 10 anniversary! I can't believe how fast it went. We have so many great memories of our first 10 years! What a ride it has been. We have lived in 3 different towns, had 3 different kids, learned about each other, how to help each other and how to hinder each other. We have had many ups and downs, but at the end of the day, how lucky am I that I got to marry my best friend and enjoy the start of our eternal adventure together!
Thanks for all the memories hunny! I look forward to the next ten years! I love you!

Baseball Games...

I finally am posting pictures of Crea in an actual game not just on Opening Day! The season is over for him as of tonight. They played a great game. It is amazing how much the team has improved over the season. We are very proud of you Tay-Tay!!

Sleeping Beauty Part 2

Here are some more crazy pictures of my little sleeping beauty... well the one isn't crazy, it's just weird! That doll scares Cam to death when he sees it laying on the floor at night :o)

Cam's injuries... Caution if you get grossed out easy!

Cam got a pretty nasty rope burn while he was roping about a week ago.. He did this on his first run, and then came back, roped about 4 more hours, then took second!! He refused to go to the doctor and he was going to bandage it with electrical tape. He is crazy! But it is healing really well so what do you do!!

My Little Sleeping Beauty

Nothing like a hard days work!!

I wonder if this is what they mean when the say..."All the comforts of home.."

My Rewards of Motherhood!

Last night I hadn't heard from any of my kids for a little while, which is usually never a good thing! I started searching the house for them when I walked by the front windows and spotted them playing baseball together! A quote came to my mind:

"Moments are the molecules of eternity"
~Neal A. Maxwell

Quietly watching them and hearing their laughter was definitely a moment I will remember for eternity. It is truly a great blessing to watch your children enjoy spending time toghether, I hope they will always know how lucky they are to have one another.
